We don’t mean to sound unromantic, but the statistics say more than 50% percent of first marriages, 67% of second and 74% of third marriages end in divorce.
Interestingly (but not surprisingly) , money disputes were the number one reason why couples split. For wives, fights over finances and sex were the most common predictors of divorce. For men, financial dispute alone were the stronger indicators.
What’s more, is that people who divorce (as indicated above), are more likely than not to do it all over, and marry for a second and third time.
Others, will choose to happily cohabitate (live together), and even share resources and purchase items jointly – including big ticket items, like a mansion and a yacht (or a starter home and row boat)-- without the legal protections that a marriage license can provide over your property rights. Same sex couples have fewer options than heterosexual couples, and therefore need added protection.
Add kids into the mix -- yours or your partner’s -- and if you or your loved one leaves, or dies, or locks you out of the house, you may have a huge financial mess on your hands.
