Does Cheating Cost?

I’m attorney Jonna Spilbor with your 60-second Legal Lowdown. With Arnold Schwarzenegger’s recent love child sex scandal in the news, you may be wondering if there’s a price to be paid for cheating. Legally speaking, it ain’t much. Here’s why. One, proving adultery in a divorce action is no longer necessary. If you suspect your spouse of cheating, hiding in the bushes so you can catch him or her red-handed, will not give you an advantage in court as much as it will give you a bad case of poison ivy.

Put the camera down. Two, most times adultery won’t win you any money or affect the distribution of your stuff unless the cheating spouse is spending your money to buy big ticket items for someone else. Three, cheating won’t hit you in the wallet as much as it hits you in the heart. Make sure you have plenty of support and at least one friend who is handy enough to change the locks.

Ladies, to avoid scoring higher than your date on a breathalyzer know this.

One, although our bellies may beg to differ, women actually have less water in their bodies than men. Since water dilutes alcohol, that martini at dinner will stay in a woman’s bloodstream longer than in a man’s. Two, while men have more water in their bodies, women have more fat. How lucky? Alcohol hangs on the body fat like I hang on to my youth. Higher fat means women will have a higher BAC than a man who’s about the same size and drinks the same amount.

Three, because hormonal changes affect alcohol metabolism, women will actually get drunker faster during PMS. Thank you, Mother Nature. I’m attorney Jonna Spilbor.
